News and Diary 2006

10th December.... Flydon Seren Syw has left us for her new home in Denmark, arriving on Tuesday subject to the weather!!! We hope she has a nice filly on board for her new owners!

29th November.... On Monday this week I was honoured to judge the Welsh Mountain Ponies at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair. I thoroughly enjoyed judging the large classes of quality ponies and I thought my Champion and Reserve were outstanding on the day. Champion was Crumpwell Blue Lace, the winner of the filly foal class and Reserve Champion was her full sister, the yearling filly Crumpwell BlueViolet. Blue Lace (pictured below) returned to the show on the second day and was Reserve Supreme Champion of the Welsh Sections.

21st November.... We had a nice email from Michel Hoeke of the Hoekhorst Stud in Holland, to which he attached a photo of a painting he had been given for his birthday.

Flydon Megan and her three offspring

At the top is Hoekhorst Evita, the Bay is Hoekhorst Emily, Flydon Megan is the light grey in the centre and to the right is her son, Hoekhorst Eclipse.

Megan had one other foal, a filly, Flydon Tisian who is currently in Finland (I think!)

12th November.... As nothing seems to be happening with the ponies at the moment, I decided to add a new page for Jill's paintings. Click HERE to find out more

25th October..... A very sad day for Flydon when we said goodbye to two of our old favourites, Caradog and Pioden Wen.

Flydon Caradog (1988 - 2006) has sired many beautiful offspring, a number of which have had great success in the showring, including 2nd/3rd/4th/6th at the RWAS. There are many more as yet unshown and we hope they are equally successful as a fitting tribute to Caradog. He leaves us 3 daughters, Eira, Llwy Arian and Tegan Efydd and one son, Lwcus.

Flydon Pioden Wen (1993 - 2006) has been a fantastic producer, three of her daughters are Medal winners, although she herself was never shown. She leaves us with a daughter, Alarch and two sons, Lwcus and Dyma Fi.

They will both be greatly missed.

23rd October.... The two yearling colts, Flydon Teigr and Flydon Mab Efydd (photos below as foals) left for their new home with Paul and Mandy James from Bridgenorth. Paul and Mandy will geld them and run them on until they are 3 and then they will be appearing on Horsequest and the for sale page of this web site when they are ready to start their ridden careers.

15th October.... Flydon Oren has left Flydon and gone to her new home at the Calamoor stud in Yorkshire. We wish Sheila a lot of luck and fun with her and a colt foal for next year!!! (that's what she ordered!).

Also today....Flydon Hedyn has gone to Sue and Mike Harris of the Castlemead Stud, owners of his sire, Highflown Japhet.

7th October...... Hay on Wye sale. We were pleased to be able to purchase Algarth Sarason, a lovely 3yr old colt who we have always admired. Sarason is by Flydon Henri ap Pip and out of Algarth Crystal Spirit.

24th September.... Fayre Oaks Sale. Flydon Addewid Aur has a lovely new home with Brian and Jennifer of the Penech Stud. Flydon Ariannydd is also moving North to the Waddington family's Brackenrigg stud as a future stallion. We wish both studs lots of luck and fun with the ponies.

9th September.....Whilst we were off enjoying ourselves at the Menai Sale, Flydon Gwennol, owned by Paul and Mandy James, was at Kington Show flying the flag and winning the barren mare class.

3rd September..... Avon and Borders Association arrived a the stud for a mornings stud visit. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and we thoroughly enjoyed showing off our ponies! Avon members very generously supported the raffle and we made £38 for Hereford Horsewatch.

31st August....Last show of the season! F. Arian Byw was 2nd in a lovely mare class at Monmouth Show. Today she also had a big photo in H&H!

27th August.... Lovely day! Flydon Arian Byw was 1st In the broodmare class and went on to be Champion at the Midlands Association Silver Medal Show.

16th August.... F. Arian Byw was 2nd in a fantastic broodmare class at Pembroke County. Without doubt the best brood mare class we have seen all year! Photo by kind permission of the event photographer www.Equestrian-Event-Photos.co.uk The actual photo is better quality than this....I think I need a new scanner!!

13th August....In Denmark....Flydon Medi was out and about again! This is the email we recieved today.

Hello,
Just a short news from Denmark from the Danish National Welsh show.

Flydon Medi stood second in a good 2/3 yearling class. She was doing really
good and was showing herself in best Flydon style !! Her mother could be
proud of her daughter. (judged by David Davies)

Greetings from Olesen Family Denmark

13th August.... Avon and Borders Medal Show. F. Seren Aur finished her season on a high note, winning the brood mare class whilst her foal, F. Alaw Aur was 2nd placed foal.

6th August..... We had a lovely day at the National Championship show at Shrewsbury. F. Llwy Arian was 2nd in the barren mare class, her one and only outing this year! Her maternal sister, F. Arian Byw won the mare class and went on to win the Brightwells Championship and Bronze Medal. A great result for her first show as a brood mare. Photos to follow.

5th August..... Tenbury Medal show. F. Eira was 2nd in the broodmare class and her foal F. Eirlys was 3rd. Both have now been turned out to enjoy the rest of the summer, though they are a bit disgusted at the lack of grass!!

30th July...... Had a lovely day at Hay on Wye Show where F. Eira was 1st in the broodmare class and her foal, F. Eirlys, was 2nd in the foal class.

22nd July.......Last foal of 2006! Flydon Heulwen has a lovely colt foal by F. Wyn, Flydon Taran.

13th July... Flydon Arian Byw has a colt foal by Flydon Wyn, line bred to Nerwyn Cadno , called Flydon Tywod Byw (Quick Sand)

10th July.... we received up to date photos of the two Dutch foals by F. Hapus ap Henri. Pictured are Vennebos Playboy and Vennebos Pearly Gem. Thanks Rhode, can't wait to see them! Gem is particularly interesting as she is out of a Nerwyn Cadno mare and we have used F.Wyn (by Nerwyn Cadno) on all of Hapus' full sisters, so extremely similar breeding to our foals. We think she is most like F. Calon Arian.

8th July..... Northleach Show. F. Seren Aur won the Junior brood mare class and the Hinton trophy, while her foal, F. Alaw Aur was 3rd in the foal class. F. Lwcus (pictured below) was also 3rd in the 2/3 year old colt class.

Lwcus has now returned from Adam and Callie Fletcher's to resume stud duties. He arrived home at 20 to 5 and was covering his first mare at 10 to 5!! Thanks go to Adam and Callie for getting his brain off mares and onto showing long enough to have respectable results at 5 shows. His education will hopefully be a good foundation for his future show career when he matures.

3rd July........F. Seren Syw has a filly foal by F. Wyn, Flydon Pefren. All four sisters by Henri and out of Pipsqueak have had Wyn fillies!

26th June.... I had a really lovely email today.....

Hi Lottie

Its Nicola with Flydon Meirion (Marlon), just thought I'd send you some up-to-date photo's. This was taken at a show we went to yesterday. I took Katie my daughter, this is her second show and she took Marlon in the bonny pony and got third out of 17. In the picture she has a fifth rosette which we won in best conditioned (out of 18)... she preferred the lilac one so we had to swap!!

I think we should all start a trend and ask for lilac rosettes! Meirion and Katie pictured below.

23rd April..... Flydon Wyn was 2nd at Avon and Borders Spring Show. He now hangs up his bridle ready for stud duties!

21st April........ Flydon Oren has a colt foal by Highflown Japhet..... Flydon Hedyn. Hedyn is welsh for "Pip" or "small seed", rather appropriate as Oren is an orange!

18th April......a foal at last!! Flydon Seren Arian has foaled, a filly foal by Flydon Wyn, Flydon Calon Arian. Calon Arian means Silver Heart...can anyone spot why we have called her that???

And the second photo comes from the Olesen family in Denmark and it's Flydon Lili Rhosyn with her filly foal born 6 days ago who is called Møllegydens Lottie!!

27th February....... The start of a new worming experiment at Flydon. I am a great believer in homeopathic remedies and am concerned about the build up of resistance to regular wormers, so we are starting a trial to worm the ponies homeopathically. We have taken a collective dung sample this morning and the worm count was virtually nil so we're starting at a good point. The idea is to monitor it's effectiveness through regular worm counts....so we'll keep you posted!

14th February....Flydon Medi, sold at Fayre Oaks last year, is surviving the Danish winter and growing nicely! Picture sent by her owners Vibeke and Jorgen Olesen.

29th January... and the keen ones have been out showing!!!! Hallows Snapdragon (out of Flydon Rhosyn) was Champion A and reserve Supreme at the Home counties winter woolies show! Well done Terry and Andrea you deserved a medal just for bathing him in this cold!

20th January... Richard Miller very kindly sent me this photo today. It was taken in 1992 (I'll have to double check that date) when Henri won the class at Glanusk Stallion show and went on to be Champion. Henri is on the far left, 1st prize at Glanusk is blue!

5th January........ And here we go again! A completely blank page! I wonder what the year has in store for us???
